The Institute of Research was the Shai-Gen Corporations main labratory under the survaliance and management of Dr. Balthazar Czernenko. It was located fairly near the West or East direction of Corridor Park in Unity Heights.
Crackdown[]
The Institute of Research is a notorious facility shrouded in mystery and danger. The imposing structure is the epicenter of nefarious scientific endeavors led by the infamous Czernenko, the Research Director of the Corporation. Constructed with large hard concrete like materials, the Institute’s exterior resembles a fortress, designed to deter any unauthorized entry.
The interior is a labyrinth of extra laboratories and containment areas, where the air is thick with the tension of unethical experiments. The facility is known for its role in creating the Freaks, monstrous beings that are a product of failed genetic manipulations from the original M2448 Prototype. The Institute is heavily guarded by Shai-Gens Scientists, loyal employees of Dr. Czernenko, draped in lightweight cyan lab suits. The containment area is where the Freaks are kept held in cells behind bars, waiting for an opportunity to breakout onto the unsuspecting streets of Pacific City.
Crackdown 2[]
The Institute of Research underwent significant changes following the events of the first game. After the demise of Dr. Balthazar Czernenko and the fall of the Shai-Gen Corporation, the facility experienced a decade of transformation. What was once a hub for Dr. Czernenko’s twisted experiments, fell into disarray. The containment areas and supply towers that were prominent in the first game are missing, and parts and structures of buildings were strangely mysteriously absent, such as the original staircase that once resided at the old metal gateway. The main dome’s underground stair access and dome interial hallways were blocked off and restricted from entry, indicating a significant overhaul of the facility’s original layout.
