The SMG is a weapon in Crackdown 2. It is a starter weapon, alongside the Shotgun. It is mainly used for close quarters. It has low damage and effective range but a moderate fire rate. It later has an upgraded version called Ultra SMG that is unlocked at Level 3 Firearms.

Due to the SMG's moderate rate of fire and a relatively low damage output, it is ineffective at higher levels but makes a perfect sidearm when combined with either the Shotgun, Assault Rifle or the Sniper Rifle. The weapon can kill a Rambler, the weakest of the Freaks in the game, as well as common Cell grunts. It will take two or even three magazines for Stronger Enemies, however, as well as difficulty killing a Cell Juggernaut in any part of the body besides the head.
Due to its small size compared to that of the Agent, it looks more like a machine pistol. Upon regeneration at a drop point, if the Agent picks a heavy weapon in one of their weapon slots, the SMG is automatically chosen as a substitute once the Agent loses said heavy weapon.
